Encourage the FDA to Recommend MDs Be Educated About Acupuncture & Its Benefits in Pain Treatment
May 31, 2017
I posted a blog earlier about an article that came out on May 11, 2017 which stated that a FDA blueprint encourages doctors to learn about acupuncture for pain treatment and management ("FDA proposes that doctors learn about acupuncture for pain management," Megan Thielking, STAT). I also mentioned that there is an open comments period regarding the guidelines in which both practitioners of all health fields and patients can voice their opinion on the issue. I am asking if you could take a moment of your time to go to the link below, which will put you directly on the "Comment Now" page for this proposal. Why is this important? Yes, what practitioners of acupuncture have to say is important. So is including documentation of studies and what other federal and health organizations have found. However, what patients have experienced from and have to say about acupuncture is just as important. YOU are the proof that acupuncture can indeed be effective for pain. You show that there are natural ways to manage and/or treat pain that do not carry the same adverse risks that the use of opioids and surgery carries. By encouraging non-pharmacologist
treatments to pain (i.e. acupuncture), acupuncture can gain an awareness in the public arena. This means more referrals and hopefully more coverage. Thank you for your time.
